HTML5: I have seen the future, it’s in my browser
HTML5 is an important part of the W3C’s Open Web Platform. HTML5 includes new features such as support for video, two way client/server communication, 2D graphics, and integration with SVG, MathML and XHTML. Paul will introduce some of these new features, report on the progress of the HTML Working Group and will provide a prediction on when the future will arrive in your browser. Speaker: Paul Cotton, Microsoft, HTML Working Group Co-Chair Paul is employed by Microsoft Canada and is presently Group Manger of Microsoft’s interoperability team that covers HTML and Cloud technologies. Paul is currently co-chair of the W3C HTML Working Group which is standardizing HTML5. Previously Paul was the founding chair of the W3C XML Query WG and lead that effort for 7 years. He was also the co-chair of the W3C WS-Policy WG that delivered two W3C Recommendations in 15 months. He is currently the Chair of the Canadian Advisory Committee on SC38 Cloud Computing. Paul has previously been elected to the W3C Advisory Board and the W3C Technical Architecture Board where he served for 5 years. During his 39 year career he has been active is several other standards organization including OASIS, WS-I and ISO. Paul has a M.Math from the University of Waterloo.
