Do not use cleaners with bleach, ammonia, or vinegar because these can actually take the finish off of your wood. Make sure you are using a product designed for wood cleaning. Minwax Wood Cleaner will gently clean wood without stripping off the old finish. This product conveniently comes in a trigger spray bottle. To apply, simply spray on and use a paper towel to gently clean off the dirt and the grime that has built up over the years. If you have a piece of furniture with an old finish, you may see whiteness, water spots, and damage even after cleaning. In the olden days, we would have had to strip or sand this down. However, to save the old finish you can use a product called Wipe-On Poly, which is an easy-to-use polyurethane.
